Orangutan Caring Week 2026

Orangutan Caring Week 2026

We can learn a great deal from orangutans—and perhaps one of their greatest lessons is how to live in harmony with the world around us.

Orangutans live in remarkable balance with their forest homes. Like countless other species on Earth, they are deeply connected to the ecosystems that sustain them. Every tree, vine, fruit, insect, and animal plays a role in the intricate web of life.

Humans, however, have become increasingly disconnected from the natural world. As forests disappear and biodiversity declines, we are reminded that our own well-being is inseparable from the well-being of the species and habitats around us.

Our 2026 theme, "Living in Harmony with Nature: Reconnecting to Save Species," encourages us to slow down, pay attention, and rediscover the natural world around us. When we reconnect with nature, we begin to appreciate it more deeply. When we appreciate it, we grow to love it. And when we love something, we are moved to protect it.

Protecting orangutans means protecting the forests they call home. It means preserving biodiversity, supporting the people and organizations working on the front lines of conservation, and recognizing that every action—no matter how small—can contribute to a healthier future for all living things on Earth.

Throughout Orangutan Caring Week, we invite organizations, zoos, educators, conservationists, volunteers, and supporters around the world to celebrate, participate, share, support, and inspire others to care. Together, we can create a more harmonious future for orangutans, their rainforest homes, and the remarkable planet we all share.

Reconnecting with nature—and working to protect it—may be one of the most important actions we can take for orangutans, their forests, and ourselves.
